Always wanted a gold nugget, think they're beautiful fish, know they get to around 12" but have been told they're really slow growing. If I put one in a 4 foot 30ish g tank, how soon would I need to upgrade to a bigger one, the ones I've seen on sale are about 3 inches so if I got one of those, would it be suitable to leave it in there for about 2 yrs until I've got a bigger house and room to upgrade to some bigger tanks?

Yes that tank would be fine for a couple of years. Probably longer! They do like fast flowing water though, and bogwood in the tank. Good Luck, their great little plecs!

Yep, sounds fine :D

A little word of warning, GNs are well known for dropping dead on arrival as they're very hard to acclimatise. If you're dead set on one, it's generally advised (or it was to me when we were considering one) that you ask the LFS to hold him for a fortnight and ensure he's eating properly long term before bringing him home.

Once they're acclimatised, they're apparently tough little sausages :D Good luck!

excellent thanks, the LFS seem really good, got some other fish from them this weekend and they happily ran through water stats with me the week before so we could adjust conditions etc, have us a polybox as we had to transport it a little way and they're ordering in some fish Ian wants too, very impressed with them so hopefully they wouldn't mind holding onto one for a bit, or there's a plec specialist not far away so might ask them instead.

got plenty of bogwood and the filters pretty good so fast flowing shouldn't be an issue :D
