After many years of strictly having cichlids I've freed up a tank for something else. I'd like to try some gouramis as I've always had bettas. The tank is a 29gal with 6 lemon tetras, 3 cherry barbs (am planning on getting a few more, I know they prefer to be in groups), 4 cory cats, and 1 rainbow shark. I would really like to add some gold gouramis but I'm a little concerned because I've heard they can be very aggressive. I really don't want fish that fight all the time (I have my cichlids for that). but I really love the look of the gold gouramis. Any suggestions or comments? I was also considering pearl gouramis as I heard they are not as aggressive but I read that they are really shy, I don't want a fish I'll lnever see. Any suggestions as to which gourami to go with and how many of them?

Thanks

These questions are always coming up... I would say go for the Pearls As I had Gold gouramis and they got quite aggresive and even though they're pretty Pearls are way more colorful especially the males. The pearls can be shy but My trio are always glad to see me and hope to get fed every time they see me. Also my little male seems to be curious about me and this is odd behavoir but he'll let me pet him some times. I actually have 2 males and 1 female in my tank to let you know how peafeful they are. Golds can be cool too its just they just do better with other semi-aggresive gouramis and larger fish. Other then that pearls have become one of my new fav's mine just have great attitudes if kept in the right conditions.

I've not had any problems with my golden gouramis (I have 3, one large and 2 that are growing :shifty: ), the 2 pearls I have are v beautiful though and I've not found them to be shy.

I have tetras, rainbow sharks, plecs, pictus, tiger barbs (I think that's what they are  ) & gouramis and haven't had any problems.

My lfs said they can be aggressive but are much less likely to be so if you introduce the into an established tank and they start out similar size/smaller than some of the fish you have in there
