just a few things, how much longer untill they might spawn i know it still very cold out side i would like to get some eggs and hatch them myself, and when should i start feeding then again?
they come up to the top most day when there isnt any ice and im not sure if they are hungry or if i can feed them yet?

If they are coming to the top feed them ,we feed ours now ,not every day,but as the weather gets milder now they will want some food

Their spawning is triggered by increasing water temperatures, day length and availability of food. This can happen at any time so theres no set time it will happen, normally spring/early summer.

thank for that, what if i wanted to breed some in side in a tank how would i got about doing that or would they still only breed like ones in a pond?
is there a ways of makeing them spawn?

id allow them to spawn in the pond then remove the eggs to a tank ,you may get lucky if you have a good male/female ratio,drop a bit of seagrass mat into the pond this fish will lay eggs on it then remove the mat into the tank
