I have 2 fancy gold fish in a 25 gallon tank , each fish is about 2 1/2 inches long 1 oranda and 1 ryukin , they are housed with 6 lepoard danios, 1 white cloud and 3 trap door snails , they have a variety of live and fake plants , the water conditions are good . they have been together for several months and with in the last couple of days the ryukin has started harrasing the oranda pushing the oranda around the tank and what looks like biting the orandas shoulder ( it has a few scales missing ) , so this morning I moved the ryukin into his own 5 gallon tank as a temporary measure.

not sure if the tank is too small for the 2 of them or if they are mating ?

It could be mating I would post in the coldwater part of the forum.
Also shouldn't really keep tropical fish with coldwater fish.

My red cap oranda and fantail were doing the same thing the other night.

Lasted a good fwe hours of "cat and mouse" he can be very rough with her to.

They do it every so often, i assume its when they feel a little frisky.

I wouldnt worry to much.

But as stated by wilder i would pop it in the coldwater section and see if anyone else has other ideas for you.

25 gallons is round 100L - a general rule of thumb i have been told is to allow a min of 30L per fancy fish so i dont think it would be a space issue.
