I am going away for a week soon and my grandad is going to have to feed my fish for me.
I feed my fish little and often but obviously this isnt really possible for my grandad who still works.

The fish I have are
5 yellow tangs
1 yellow steak fairy wrasse
1 Foxface
1 coral beauty angel
2 bangii cardinals
1 mandarin
1 marron clown

I currently feed them 3 times a day.
I give them about 2 small prawns, a small bit a squid and a little bit of muscle. And a 10 squared piece of marine algea a day which is devided into the 3 feedings.

I think my grandad will only be able to feed them 1 prawn and a little bit of squid once a day and no algea for the whole week.

How do you think my fish will cope with this, will they be ok?

thanks

Well what I do is leave the livestock with someone who has a bit of an idea firstly. I leave out dry food for my fish in little pots for each day of the time your away to stop over feeding and a detailed note to say what they have. I find that its best to cut down a bit on the food that you would normally give them because time after time I have had people say they looked hungry. Renember hungry fish are happy fish!

I also find that doing a large water change just before I leave and when I get back to cut down on ammonia.

If your fish are healthy they would probably do fine for the whole week without being fed.

Personally if you have someone else there to feed them keep it as simple as possible. Maybe get some frozen mysis and just ask them to chuck in 1 cube a day (ideally defrosted first ).

Sorry just looked at your fish list again, might want to make that 2 cubes a day.

I would do the same as Barney and just get someone to add a couple of cubes of frozen brineshrimp or mysis each day, (whichever they eat). I would also increase the lighting to encourage algae to grow on the glass. The tangs and foxface will graze on that.

Yup, when I go away I line up shot glasses in the freezer with the right amount of frozen food per day. Tell my tank-sitter (usually my housemate) to stick them in the microwave for 10 secs, then dump it in the tank. Works great.

gahhh hope u clean the shot glasses befor u use them for liquor? haha got any funny stories?

mmmmm my sambuka taste's shrimpy haha

Some good tips here! I was wondering about holiday feeding. Sounds nice and straight forward though :D
