I am going home for thanksgiving (canadian), for almost 4 full days. Now can I get away with not feeding them for this long by feeding them a lot before I leave or should I purchase those tablets? I have heard some bad stories about those tablets even that its better to let them starve a bit then put the tablets into your tank. Any advice?

Also I wanted to ask if otto's can live by themselves? I want to put one otto in one tank and one in another as I have a pair but I need some algae eating fish in another tank.

Thanks!

Fish can live a long time wiithout food, so I would'nt worry about 4 days, also I would'nt over feed them to much before you go just a bit more than normal will be fine. HTH.

Hiya

four days will be no problem, fish can survive much logner than that on no food at all. they are cold blooded, unlike humans, so they ca last longer without regular food.

i wouldnt recommend using those feeding blocks as most are made of plaster which can affect your water chemistry eg hardness and pH. I once used some by Tetra that claimed not to be made of plaster, but my fish wouldnt eat thema nyway, and when i can back there was jsut a nasty mess of decomposed fod block in the tank which caused some fungus on the bogwood which i still havnt got rid of!

I wouldnt recommend overfeeding either, *but* you could alter your feeding routine as detailed here if you have time:

but for only four days its probably not really worth the fuss...

Hi _]im :)

Unless you have tiny fry in your tanks, four days without food should be no problem at all for your fish.

Before you go away, why not start a thread in General Talk and tell the members about Thanksgiving Day in Canada? It would be great if you would like to tell us about its history and how you celebrate it.

Thanks for the help guys, you saved me some money and a possible disaster with my tank!

but about the otto's is it okay to split them up and have one in each tank?
