And to think they now sell Glofish Bettas. Bettas are beautiful in their natural colorings. It's a sin..I tell ya.

I'm curious where your objections lie? is it in the GM aspect?

Often you get the non-natural argument, and I always wonder where the line is drawn? maybe you could elaborate @Fishmanic you used "natural unaltered fish" does this mean you don't like goldfish? Flowerhorns? Bettas? because they are all non-natural altered fish. Or is it just the fact you could probably not select for the fish "naturally"? or are you more of a fan of wild caught fish?

Well one perk with the betta is its actually better suited for the smaller glofish tanks they market for glofish!

Ya know, since they also have glofish tiger barbs, rainbow sharks, skirt tetras and danios, but market only 3, 5, and 10 gallon tanks for the glofish.

I've read that they do. There are two types of Glofish tetras: regular and longfin. I assume they also recognize/school with each other.

Yes they do!
My single gloskirt is accepted by both my black skirts and white skirts just fine.

Some people don't like the look of them. Some people love them.

Personally I hate the glo light with them. But under natural light theyre not too bad.

Theres another company that does glofish ricefish and glofish angelfish I believe.

Glofish aren't my cup of tea aesthetically speaking, but I have no strong objections to them. My daughter loooooves them when shes sees them in the store. So far I've held the line.

Guess its where we want to cross the line at. Glofish apparently doesn't have the rights to the angelfish and ricefish, so the creators market it separately.

In my opinion, or really what I've learned in my short time is that people will go to any length to make money.
Whether it be putting fish in little cups, misleading consumers, or selling genetically modified fish.
We can't do much except for trying our best to educate the people around us and making sure the fish we keep are kept to the best of our abilities. So I personally say no to glofish, it would be like buying a purple dog. It just doesn't feel right.

These were our first fish and I'll call them gateway fish. My daughter's class at school has a fish and she was so interested in it (just a regular betta - not glo) that we got her a surprise tank for her birthday. I originally planned to get her a betta but when we saw the glo tanks with the tetras we knew she would go bonkers for them because she loves bright colors. She loves her fish and has become very interested in the hobby and has learned a lot about fishkeeping. I am now setting up my own tank for my home office going with an all natural (non-glo) scape. My husband has also become interested in the hobby now and wants a shrimp tank as well as a large aquarium for our breakfast nook area.

My point being.... if you like them or your family likes them, get them. They are very pretty and interesting fish. Personally I like the tetras because they get biggest and it really makes the colors stand out in the tank. I do not understand the appeal of the betta glo as bettas come in enough beautiful colors naturally. But that's just my opinion.

We had a lone Black Skirt Orange Glofish. Long story but the other fish (Regular Zebras and some Neon Tetras and another Glofish) died some time ago. My wife wanted to get rid of the tank but said as long as I got some BIG fish (i.e. not Neon Tetras that would die and get sucked into the HOB intake) that did not die we could make a go of it. Now we have ~11 Glofish, 6 Buenos Aries, 8 Cory's and a Mystery snail. All seem happy, though we did lose one small Glofish a few days ago.
