How is the light spread on these? I am thinking about getting one (2 x 54w T5 version) but the 2 tubes seem too be close together and it looks as though the majority of the light will be focused just below the unit - is this the case?

also, what is the maximum width of the glass that can be used?

Thanks.

i own 2 of them (2x24w & 2x54w) and even though ive only used the 24 so far,(the 54 is waiting for me to setup my marine tank) i am very pleased with it. It's got a very good reflector in it. my tanks are only 12" front to back so i couldnt tell you how the spread really is but it certainly seems great to me although i havent used any other HO hoods before. HTH a little

Hi
I have the twin 55watt T5 on a 5x2x2 its spread seems vert good and the plant grwth has been beyond my expectations
i have it positioned slightly off centre towards the front - as it casts less shadows from the wood, but that is asthetics rather than need!
but all in all, a very good lighting unit, well worth the money.
My cover glass is 5mm if this helps?!?
Hope this helps

Thankyou drtim.

i mean the tank's glass thickness where the legs attach (5mm glass, 8mm glass etc), because obviously if i have extremely thick glass the legs may not fit over the rim - hope this diagram helps to explain! The red is where the legs attach to the tank.

The reason i ask is because i will be getting a fluval roma 240 and i need to upgrade the lighting, but the rim is glued on so the thickness may be something like 20mm and i am unsure if it will fit - i know with the arcadia luminiares you can buy an attachment which allows you to use it on thicker glass.

Here is a picture of my current fluval, and as you can see it is really thick edge:
