For my build 75-gal Planted, Dirted, Sumped Journal, I had debated for a while getting an Aqueon tank from Petco simply because the price is right. After some reading though, I figured I would spend a bit extra and avoid potential hazard. I understand there are lots of good functioning aqueons out there, but at the 75 gal size, I am just willing to pay for some peace of mind.
I am so glad I did. This thing is biuld like a tank (really didn't intend that one}. It's 3/8" glass, all polished and beveled. The overflow is also 3/8" (totally not necessary), and then has an acrylic cover that can be removed if necexxary. It also has eurobracing all around the inside bottom seams. I was originally hesitant about black silicone, but the way they build, I like it better than clear.
Heres are a few pics:
Overflow:
Closeup of the black silicone. They intentionally leave about a 2mm gap between the panes which are polished and beveled and use the silicone as the bond rather than tanks where the glass is basically butted and the silicone is used more as a seal only rather than and edge bond. This allows for very nice cleanup and finished product. Here's a closeup of a seam. There is no "bead" as you would normally see.
Overall, I am really impressed with the build quality. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again -- also they seem like friendly, customer-focused people. I am within a couple of hours of their facility, so we did local pickup. While we were there, they gave us (wife and daughter) a tour of the shop. It's pretty neat to see how the sausage is made. It's also is easy to get tank envy when you see your 75 gal next to several that are easily 300 - 1000 gal.
