im buying a new tank and don't know which to get
advice appreciated

please disregard the last two options
my mistake :*)

It kind of depends on what you want and how you want it to look. For the most part, glass tanks are going to be strictly rectangular. Bow fronts and wave tanks will have to be acrylic to get the bend with a few exceptions. Both of my 29 & 75 gallon tanks are glass while the smaller 2.5 and 5 gallon ones are acrylic. One thing you have to be careful of with acrylic is scratching, especially if you have a sand substrate. If you use one of the magnets to clean and get a piece of sand between it and the glass, you can do pretty serious damage and not realize until it's too late.

For normal sized aquaria glass is the cheapest option and since weight isnt a issue acrylic offers no advantage over glass.

For over sized tanks (those over 250 gallons) acrylic becomes cheaper than glass (1/2 inch thick aquarium grade glass is not cheap) and because it is lighter than glass offers clear advantages in manouverabilty of the tank. A empty glass tank of 6x3x3' will require 4 people to move it, a acrylic tank could be moved easily by two.

voted glass.

glass for small tanks 55 and lower, Acrylic for larger ones 75+. Because of the weight(lighter), strength(like 15X stronger), and price of acrylic(still more expensive but less so with bigger aquaria).

:/ i much perfer glass tanks , i have 5 glass tanks and they have very few scrateches on them allough theyare heavy, and i have two acrylic tanks nice and light weight but scratch so easily that i would change to glass if i could,
