Hello,

I'm really fond of this fish and think it would fit into my set up nicely but I was wondering on their temperment and behavior.

Are they timid fish or are they sociable?

Do they quarrel with other fish?

Do they fin nip?

Do they eat plants?

Anyone general experience with this fish please come forward!

...

Thank you.

That's more like a fact sheet though.

Does anyone have any more personal answers to my questions? It's hard to find such details on websites.

Are they timid fish or are they sociable?
Social but hierarchical; males (which have bigger humps) will chase one another, much as regular glassfish do. If you can only keep a small group, do try and keep more females than males.
Do they quarrel with other fish?
Not really. They are potentially predatory though, much like regular glassfish.
Do they fin nip?
Nope. Some glassfish are fin- and scale-eaters in the wild (genus Ambassis, I think) but not these.
Do they eat plants?
No.

Basic care is essentially identical to other glassfish. Neutral freshwater, lots and lots of oxygen, very good water quality, and suitable meaty foods. They don't need salt. Maximum size in aquaria seems to vary between 8-10 cm. I'd not keep them in a tank less than 200 litres in size, and ideally quite a bit more. Do provide lots of water current, ideally 6x the volume of the tank in turnover per hour.

Cheers, Neale
