hi i just bought some juvie glass cat fish. and b4 i did i did some researching and a relly good site sed they should go with guppys neons and harlequins, and since thats wat i had that is where they are now. in my 15 gal. but my question is. should i put them in my 27 gal with gouramis, angels, silver sharks and clown loaches plus a couple of mollys. so which tank should they do best in?

So as the 15 Gallon tank if all the fish is school of recommended number. Say 6 of each. Guppy, Neon, harlequin and glass cat. 6 of each would be alot for 15 gallon, me think.
Especially all the fish become adult max size.
So depends on the number of total fish you have and the number of glass cat you got(I wouldn't get less than 4~5, probably more than 6 if I have space), you might want to get new tank probably bigger.
Or move some fish. However I do think you want to keep the glass cat with the kind of peaceful fish in 15 G and not the kind of fish in 27G. Since I hear the glass cat is kind of shy scary cat. :D
But make sure the tankmate is not too small. I believe any of the fry of 15 G fish woould be a lunch fior glass cat. Since I hear they do like live food, so much that sometime they refuse to eat prepared food.
Anyway, I think you need to re-figure out the fish inch water volume ratio. And may need to add more water surface. "wink wink" New tank.

I don't think there's any need to keep 6 glass cats. I have 2 in my 320l and they are very active and accept all foods readily but will not eat from the top, but instead catch it on the way down.

2 galss cats would be fine IMO, as long as they are in an even number then they should be fine.

Hi Bea/\/ :)

Glass catfish are lovely and delicate little fish. They would not get on well with the fish in your bigger tank, although I've kept them with gouramis and had no trouble.

These shy fish like to stick closely together and once they picked their favorite plant in my tank, they seldom strayed from it. They are not likely to hunt down your fry, but if a very tiny one swam right in front of it, it might be lunch.

Mine loved live worms, but would eat flake when tiny bits floated down in front of them. They never came to the top or bottom to eat.

Here's my favorite link about them:

I would say keep them in no less than groups of four and your 27 is way overstocked. Clown Loaches grow to be a foot in length, also need to be in groups of 4 or more and the Angel will eventually grow to the size it'll occupy a 27 on it's own.

Too timid for my liking. They hang out under my bogwood all day and only come out at night. My fairly placid mollies scare them to death. And I have to syringe food down to them to ensure they eat. I've also found they much prefer freeze dried or live foods over flakes. I always try to show my mates but they're hiding. Actually it's kinda cool that you have to watch for a while to see them venture out.

Really?

I think I must have party fish! My 2 glass cats are always out and about in my biggest tank, it's the same with my 2 cardinal tetra.

Hmmm I was thinking of getting more glass cats because I like them, maybe putting them in the planted cube.

:)

thanx for the advice guysive reduced my female guppys and sold half of my neons. and my glass catfish have been my favorite fish to keep!

My Glass cats are finally coming out. 5 weeks after purchase. They look heaps cool. The three of them just hover in the current together or up to the surface for feeding. Still skittish but much less shy. :D

Hi BigJula :)

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear your cats are doing well!

How are your glass catfish doing, Bea/\/ ? :dunno:

I just bought 2 glass catfish today thinking of buying another couple tomorrow. the bigger one I would say is about 3" swims around quite often, the smaller one about 2-2 1/2" just swimms in the current from the filter all the time. They are fun, I have them with 5 Bloodfin Tetras also a glass fish, with my 5 Ghost shrimp.
