hi there. new here. i have 2 questions for you if you can help.

first off, my new glass cat fish permanently stays in the corner of the tank - opposite side to filter and heater - in plants. he/she only ever comes out during feeding time and shivers before coming out. is this shyness? are they shy by nature? would it be better if i got another glass catfish/2/3 more?

oh - iv had him/her for about 3 weeks now, so im guessing if it was going to die it would have by now...

thanks!

Glass cats are a schooling fish and the min number recomended is 6.
think 'there is safety in numbers'

aha. thanks for the reply. well they didnt mention that in the shop! i guess it makes sense seeing how delicate it looks. poor thing. may have to go buy a few more then to keep him happy!

be careful though. i don't want to discorauge you, but i'm sure they also didn't tell you at the store how big they get.

these things growto be about 6" in length. so a school of 6 6" fish will take up room. so make sure you are prepared if you don't have a large tank, and be prepared to trade in if necessary.

i hope this is not the case and you enjoy them. i myself want to get some, but my fish will eat these guys :( . maybe some day in the future. i want to set up a "glass" tank. using glass cats, ghost shrimp, glass fish if compatible. jsut all thaose clear fish i na well planted tank. i think that would look cool!

One of our glass catfish died the other day ( :-( ) and now we're down to 2, but they seem pretty happy. Fester (our largest one) is a beast and is far from shy. Just a great big eating machine.

We seem to have defied every stereotype about keeping glass catfish. Allegedly they are very hard to keep, fussy eaters, shy and moody. Ours eat anything and everything, one of ours died after having him for well over a month because of a blocked filter and a snail problem, and the two we have left are very audacious and playful. They chase the tetras a lot.

i had one for ages, it was well shy. after adding two more, they swim and dart about, but are most active at
night. like Richie Hell says, they eat well. and if they aint in the body of the tank they hang around the front. if you have one, adding two or three more is worth it. but be warned they grow to over 6"

as a rule if i find a store selling painted fish, i do my best to let people know, If you wish you could post the name and location of the store, so other members, can, and warn others to, avoid using the shops.
