Went shopping today with Mum,thought I would buy an air freshener for the room my tanks are in. Bought one of those glade ones that you plug in,got it home, about to plug it in and I read the card it was on.

Harmful to aquatic organisms may cause long term adverse affects in the aquatic enviroment

Do any of you use these in your home ?

To get rid of musty smells and make rooms smell fresh, I use a brand spanking new hi-tech system that was only recently invented. I found an obscure reference to it in some scientific study regarding defenestration.

I just open the windows!

I agree with dwarfs,

Get a Scented candle, and crack a window

The rooms never smell though!....If you keep your tanks in good shape there wont be need for any candles, thats just in my case. they will smell nuetral :p

unless your talking about the food.....  boy do they have a kick!

We use these, well my Mum does. However we have one in the kitchen and one in the lounge which are the otherside of the house. We have a gel smelly thing in the room with fish and had no effects.

I havent noticed any effects to the fish because of the Glade smellys but then again they are proabbly as far away from the tank you could get.

I just like my rooms to smell nice, I don't think there's any smell from the animals apart from general hay and sawdust. I love burning candles, I like them and have the window open in the day too.

Smelling sweet!

My room doesn't smell, maybe I'm used to it :p If I open a window it's because my tanks combined heaters warm up my room to about 75 degrees

EEEK!

Thanks for posting this cat

I've had these plug in ones for years before keeping fish and didn't realise the danger. I knew I couldn't use sprays but never thought about the oily one

I have a smelly old dog  and use them occasionally to mask the aroma when I have guests so will chuck them out now!

I have been using them for a long time and after getting my tanks then buying a refill I noticed this. So, instead of jumping up and down and going oh sh*# I called glade.

The response was, 1. Don't put it in your tank. 2. If you use an airpump make sure it is a reasonable distance (6' or more) away from the air pump.

They said other than that it should be fine. The primary issue I guess resolved around people putting them on top and in there tanks to help with the smell!

They started printing it after a lawsuit by some guy because he put it "IN" his tank. You would think common sense would dictate not to do that.

I don't know if they won or lost the lawsuit (they didn't say), but I hope they won because that had to be just stupid. :S

LOL on putting it in the tank

Thanks for that enchanted. Mine is across the room around 7 foot or so away from my tanks and I've not noticed any problems so far

<searches for air freshner in the bin>

i used 2 use one in the room my fish were in and they seem 2 be all rite 2 this day .

If i were you i would stick to OIL/candles/sent stones these do not spread as fast and dont have time to land in the tank. And if it has a hood on the tank it wont bother it.
