Ok, PH had been holding steady at around 7.8...put some wood in last night and this morning the PH is 7.4 
I had put in some ghost shrimp to help with clean up...was vaccing out the gravel this morning and saw a shrimp head go by...hopefully the wood will help them out. I put two long pieces in there and made sure to make it so theres hiding places. My cory seems to love being able to swim away from the Serpae who have apparently nibbled on his back fin a bit.
Not sure I'm going to keep those (4) Serpae once my tank (10gal) is good and stable. They're little jerks to everything I've put in there with them.
