I’ve been thinking about getting one of them for a year or so now, and would like to know if I could keep other fish with it in a 650 to 700 US gallon tank or well he/she need it’s own tank? There well be caves rock piles branches and plants in the tank. I well be running a wet dry filter, and if I can get it there well also be a K1 moving bed filter added as well. Also do you think a tank that size could house 2 of them M&F? Thanks for the help
P.S. Tank size 4’x8’x3' so 718.129 gal without decor.

Personality is very variable. Some specimens get along just fine with tetras and South American cichlids, while others are downright vicious. They're best kept singly, and almost never get along with their own kind. One experienced T. mbu keeper wrote an article for TFH Magazine a couple of years ago arguing they need 1000 US gallons. Some might argue otherwise, but it's notable that most of the critics haven't kept this species!

In a word, avoid. There's little reason to keep this species with much smaller pufferfish being widely available.

Cheers, Neale

I didn’t think 2 would work, and I want a larger one to go in my big tank. We are going to have a couple smaller tanks for other FW puffers. I have seen people keep them with cichlids on youtube and want to know if anyone here had one, or had one.
I'm still not 100% on getting one yet... but they are ever so nice looking.
