Went to a local MA today, and they had some huuuuuuge Platies in. I mean, HUGE!! Are they a different species?

Nope their just large platies, great fish but usually their old breeding stock so you don't usually get much life span from them.

Non of my platies have ever got remotely near the size though. I'm talking probably 3 times the size. How do they get that big?

I have repeatedly gotten mine to a good 2.5-3" and as thick as my thumb when kept in room temp. The ones in with my fancy goldfish right now are that size. They also hit that size in one summer in a pond.

Don't let that word pond throw you off. This is a picture of my "pond". The fish don't know there is no hole in the ground.

I've noticed massive ones before, and mine have never seem to have gotten that big.

Exactly. Maybe it's the case though as i don't seem to be able to find any info on the net regarding them. They just seemed huge, like 4" big! Mine have never reached this size even in a decent sized aquarium. They reach about 2" and thats your lot. :/

Strange. But not worth a fiver each if they're about done for!

Thanks for the info guys! :)
