i was up in matlock bath a few weeks back and went in the aquarium.....fantastic and all for £2.50 (out of season) some real nice fish in there......i spotted a chinease alge eater and went "eek they getkinda big" i have one :) some mean looking pihra a massive plec.....and giant gourami!!!

now im an average sized lad if you cut my arms and legs off my body would be the size of its and my head would be about the size of its tail .... has anyone come across these before, you'd have a bit of a shock if you LFS sold you a baby giant gourami

ive got pics of some of the fish but not the gourami, ll post up later

well worth a visit if your ever in Matlock Bath ;)

They have one of these at my lfs and they are big! A customer had returned it after realising how big it got.

at my not so lfs thers a 3ft catfish and they reakon it still has alot to grow :S its massive and the cutest thing i have ever seen wish i had the tank space 2 rehome it :(

I've seen a 4000 gallon tank with a massive shoal of these.
They are stunning creatures, many are put off when they are older
as they lose their colour and become more wrinkly. They are very friendly.
And very big, so not for the average aquarium.

the pair i saw were grey in colour but happily came to the front of the glass to say hello...........expecting food more than likely hehe

I have read they can get to 1kg and end up on asian dinner plates..

1kg doesnt seem much for the size of fish they were.......a good 2 feet in length nose to tail

Ive seen a couple of giant gouramis, one in the display tank in wharf aquatics and also one in a big tank in victoria shopping centre in nottingham, lovely fish, would love to own one one day but i think i need to win the lottery so i can buy a house big enough to have a tank to house it.

PS The giant pirhana are pacu i think and the catfish looks like a red tailed catfish, theres one of these at wharf aquatics also.
