I have two ghost shrimp that stay in my 5g that I don't plan to use as feeders. They are fun to watch and useful too.In my 10g cool water tank I have a fantail and a koi(they'll have a larger home eventually). They enjoy a few shrimp as snacks and I am just wondering how they rate as a source of nutrition. They are cheap so I don't mind buying them,as long as they are a fair source of nutrients.

Thanks...

You know the Koi will need a minimum home of 1000g pretty soon and a 10g isn't suitable at any point in its life.

He's not much larger than the fantail at this point and seems content. But I am already dreaming of a pond.....

It's just that most of us don't feed ghost shrimp to our fish or knwo its nutritional value.

However, I can tell you that goldfish of even under 2" love ghost shrimp, so even if it lacks nutrition, it's still savored.

or for the probable cheaper option live blood worm are a massive favourite of my aquruim that has rudd and goldfish fry. well the goldfish are in the dpond now as they got too big!!

Being really new to all this,I'm still looking for a source of live worms in my area. The lfs doesn't have it and I'm not sure if the stuff in the gel packs is a reasonable substitute.Did see a pond setup that might be affordable...once I gain experience/confidence.Who knew where a lil betta in a bowl for my kiddo would lead

Koi fry could only live in their for a month or so at best and even if it is the same size as the Fantail it will be producing twice as much waste and the tank may be stunting its growth.

Much as I'd hate to I guess I may have to see if my kid's aunt would take him.She has a pond.I was seriously misinformed at the store where I bought him. They actually had these coded as fish that can live in a bowl.I never intended to do that, but I thought they'd be ok in an aquarium. My water readings are good except for being a bit on the hard side, but if it's not going to work then I'll have to find a solution :-(

your local shop is evil!!

they do look great and it's best if you can donate to a nice pond especially if you can still see it.

Probably they are...lol.But I blame myself for buying a beautiful fish on impulse without researching it's needs. When I go to the shops I tend to be drawn to the cold water fish, the fancy golds and such.I'm going to try to find out if any are well suited to maybe a 55g tank if I keep the population low.Meanwhile I'm calling the aunt with the pond today to see if the koi can be kept there.Much as I love to watch him,I have to think of what's best for him.And she does live nearby,so I could see him.I'll be posting more questions soon. Thanks for all the info :)
