While getting two friends for my cory, I got an urge to get two (rather large) ghost shrimp. They are getting along great with everyone in the tank (even the puffer), however I noticed something. I think they might be carrying eggs. They have alot of small, brown balls in the abdomen. If these are eggs, should I provide anything special for them to lay (or hatch) the little shrimp. I have plenty of hiding spots for the adults, but I'm not so sure for the little ones.

Those are indeed eggs. If you watch closely the female holding them will use her little legs to move them around to keep oxygen circulating to them. I have a bunch of ghost shrimps and have seen them with eggs many times...BUT i have heard nothing but bad things about trying to breed them. For the most part everyone that Ive talked to says its almost impossible. One of the only ways to make it work would be to put the female with eggs in her own tank until she lays them (or whatever you wanna call it), and then take her out. You can feed them with baby brine shrimp when they hatch. Thats about all i know...sorry im not too much help 8)

As always...I'm up for a challenge. lol So, now the two female ghost shrimp are in their own cozy, 1 gallon tank. They have a little plant, and two mini plastic slinkies for them in there.

Anyone know about how long it takes for them to lay the little ones?

Well, from the day i first see them carying they eggs (which may not be the first day they have them) ive usually noticed mine having them for a week or so. Although one we *think* carried them for almost two weeks, we were never sure if it was just two that had eggs around the same time - theres a LOT of plants and hiding spots in my tank so its really hard to keep track
