I'd been wondering for a while what to put in my 3 gal desk tank - the options seemed pretty limited: a betta, or shrimp. Already having bettas, I chose shrimp. Thank god I did! These are possibly the coolest things I have ever seen, I love them. After trying and failing to find any shrimp in local pet stores, I looked on the net, found a dealer and emailed him. He dropped off my three ghost shrimp at a LFS and I picked them up this afternoon.

They are the cutest! They only have one live plant in their tank - anubias - but I plan to pick up another live one soon. It's furnished with silk/plastic ones now. They seem happy enough, they're scurrying all over the tank, across the sand, up the walls.. they seem to particularly like the sponge filter. Algae grows on the air tube and they're picking stuff off the sponge.

I bought some crayfish pellets for them but they don't seem to be too keen on them... should I try algae wafers? Zucchini?

Anyway, I'm very glad I got these little guys :)

I don't keep ghost shrimps but I keep Amano and cherry shrimps. I agree that shrimps are fascinating to watch. I love watching them. Always so busy picking and plucking food from bogwood, plants and gravel. Not too sure about diet of ghost shrimps but I think they are more of a scavenger. My shrimps eat frozen bloodworms, algae wafers, crab pellets and boiled green vegetables :D

They'll eat whatever you feed your fish.

Just give them some flakes once a day, and some veggies occasionally. Don't overfeed, as this is a small tank and shrimp are sensitive to bad water quality.

Thanks guys :)

They're picking at the crayfish pellets now. And I can see their stomachs, theres food in them. Haha, so convenient.

EDIT: Thanks Tyler - will do.

Update:

One of the shrimp died :( I went shopping with mum and came home to find the power out. It must have been out a few hours... one of the little guys was lying dead on the bottom. He was turning pink, which I hear they do when they die because of the carotene.
Aw.
:rip:
The other two seem okay.

They do die unfortunately as they are only feeder srimp usually... they are kept in brackish water at LFS and breeders...they live alot longer in brackish and marine setups...not so mush FW :/

There is more than one species of shrimp with the common name 'Ghost'. Some are freshwater, some are brackish.
