Can someone just give me miscellaneous info on ghost shrimp? I.e. are they agressive, water types, tank mates, breeding, cost, care, etc.
Are they compatible with other fish?

I'd like to know this before adding them to my tank.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Let's see here.. I've got 2 Ghost Shrimp and done some research on them so let me see what I can remember/come up with.. ;)

Aggresive/Tank mates - not aggro! They're good with fish that won't pick at them, though most will at first. You just don't want someone who's trying to swallow or take chunks out of them.
Water types - They are pretty easy keepers, of course they like clean water, and they can withstand lower temperatures than other "cleaning crews".
Breeding - I've heard (though haven't experienced) that they are fairly easy to breed, though not raise young. The female gets a load of green eggs on her, but they usually do not hatch/are eaten.
Cost - Super cheapo! Usually less than a buck around here.
Care - Easy! They just like to scrounge around on the bottom for food and do a good job of keeping it clean. Sometimes they'll even come hang upside down at the water's surface to get food - so cool!

Haha can you tell I love these guys? I definately recommend them! If you have any more questions, I'd love to try and help.

Thanks. And I do.
I believe I saw ghost shrimp at Petsmart for 60 and they were 1-2". But I went to a local fish shore and they were $3 a dozen for extremely small kinds. I went to another Petsmart location and they were out. Do they get that big?

I have platies, platy fry, danios, and a chinese algae eater in there. Do the shrimp eat really small fry?

Thanks, again.

i haven't done any research, but i have about 6 small ones in my puffer/goby tank (they were bought as feeder shrimp, but no one wants to eat them, and they've started to get bigger, so i guess i have new pets  ), but they are great at cleaning the floor as juliethegr8t said, they eat up all the leftover frozen brine shrimp my gobies dont' get to. just adding my two cents

I think 1-2'' is about as big as they are gonna get, not including feelers - those are already 2-3'' long on my guys and they're less than an inch in body! As far as eating fry, I don't think the shrimp would, no. They're not really fast enough to catch them, plus I don't even know if they could hold them long enough to get them in their mouths (if they fit!) haha. The only fry I'd be worried about them eating are maybe the danio fry - but parents eat those anyway.. lol.

I've had about 20 in my 55 up until a week or so ago . . . one of my pregnant females finally laid her eggs and I found 7 little ones boppin' around the tank. Haven't had the time to sit down and count them all . . . so let's just say I have 20+.

They are great little guys to have in a tank, I've had them now for about five months and never had them disturb their tankmates in any way. They don't bother fry either . . :)

I love my Ghost Shrimp! They're amusing little critters - so much fun to watch! I have them in with a Betta, Platys, Corys, and a Pleco and have had no problems. They're only 26 cents a piece at Wal-Mart (if I get them from Wal-Mart they go in to quarantine for awhile, of course!). I highly recommend getting some :)
