Guys whats the best way to get the right water for my saltwater tank? Can I use regualr tap water and add the wet sand ( with bacteria ) to the water and a rooted plant? or can i ( if possible ) purchase water from my LFS. This is my second day learning about setting up a saltwater tank. Don't worry I am not planning on purchasing any fishes soon!. And whats an RO Machine? I've seen other members talking about getting water from that device for their tanks.

Thank you for your help!

Your better asking this in the saltwater section as you should receive more helpful replies there! :)

You could always just buy premixed R/O water...I got mine 5 gallons premixed R/O water for $10.

We can answer some of your basic questions, but next time you might want to post this in the saltwater forum. Salt water forum handles all questions related marine setup.

It's a bad idea to use regular tap water, unless it's extremely pure. Your water might have too much nitrate, phosphate, iron, etc. You can get a premixed water from LFS, but it's going to get pricy. I would just purchase the marine salt mix, and mix it yourself in a clean garbage can using RO water. Just let the water pump run for a while... Also, you might want to consider crushed corals (aragonite) instead of sand...unless you're talking about live sand.

BTW, most marine plants are actually macro algae. There are some true plants, but I've never seen one for sale at most LFS. You don't really need it, and isn't recommended for beginners due to lighting requirements. Also, some fish, like tang, will eat them.

RO machine is reverse osmosis machine. It's a water purifying filter. But unlike other water filters, it filters out EVERYTHING but water; so you get a pure water. It's recommended for fish-ohly marine setup, and pretty much mandatory for reef setup.

Take your time, and do some research. In fresh water, things get ugly when you rush your setup. In marine setup, it's truely unforgiving (not to mention expensive). You'll also get no sympathy from the guys and gals from the marine forum (not just at TFF either!).
