Getting Rid Of Snails From Plants

Hi all

I'm sure I remember reading that before introducing new plants to the tank, you should dip them in salt wate to get rid of any snails on them.

Does this work, and how is it done - that is, how strong should the salt solution be, and how long do they need to be dipped for.


(Sadly I don't have a tank any more - but a friend has bought some new plants from a snail-infested pet shop - he asked for advice on dealing with them, I mentioned this, then was embarassed when I couldn't remember any more details!)

Snails are not that bad. I like to have a few. It's a good idea to keep some snail eating fish around betta fish will hunt some down. Gorumai will eat some. Loaches them them. My ebjd likes to set snails. Don't over feed and keep the tank clean that will keep the population down or under sontrol. Hand remove any big ones. I had rams horn and pound snails but now I only have the rams. Not sure what happen there may the rams out compost the pounds.

You can put some veggie or fish food wafer in during the day and later in the day the snails should be all other it and you just scoop them out.

But under feeding and keeping snail eating fish keeps them all in check. Snails can be your friend. They Do a great job cleaning are nice live food. I personally think they are kind of cute. Mine don't eat my plants so I don't mind a few of them.

I know, but its not my tank so I can't implement any of this My friend wants rid of them as he's had problems in the past.

You'll only ever have snail problems if you over feed or leave decaying matter in the tank, they'll be fine providing he doesn't do anything I mentioned.
