I knew that my spiderwood was gonna rot for a little bit when I introduced it, as both of the other wood pieces I have used in the past did, but this time I don't have a cleanup crew to take care of it. My water is a little cloudy, which I am assuming is from the wood though it looks kinda like new tank syndrome (year+ established tank). Is this something to be concerned about, or can I ride it out?

I can grab a photo soon, but there is currently a betta inside it. I redid his tank yesterday and added new wood, though i had hoped boiling it a little first would help some of this.

Fish usually eat it. If not, remove it and give it a soak in boiled water

Just be aware that some fungus is highly toxic to fish. I know, I had it on a piece of grapewood. A microbiologist can tell you the species, but...just be vigilant, if there is any sign of fish having laboured respiration, or lethargy, it could be the fungus. Other types are safe (or seem to be).

Thank you for the advice! I'll keep a closer eye on him until it clears up

If you have doubts on its safeness, I would definitely remove it. If you want, you can monitor it in a bucket for a few days.
