i have a 30 gal with no real plants in it, so the algae grows unopposed, while it does not completely dominate my tank, it is starting to grow very noticeably thick on my decorations(caves fake plants). i was wondering if there were any options of there than buying an algae eating fish.

Shrimp especially amano are very good at cleaning algae. Other than that I think just wiping it off is the best method. I scrub my ornaments and bogwood with a brush if it builds up too much.

Add some egeria/ elodea densa. it grow extremely fast and it is supposed to release analgae bustin chemical, you also have the option of SAE's (siamese algae eaters) get theses as the chinese algae eaters when mature usually get territorial and stop eating algae. SAE's are good for hair algae. You can also lower the lighting if possible.

there is an algae guide in my sig if that helps.
