I've got a 5 gallon tank (heavily planted w/ live plants), and I think I'm going with a dwarf puffer for it. The tank will be on my desk, so he'll have company much of the time.

I'm a little worried about my filter- it's an in tank filter that came with the tank. I'm going to replace it with a biowheel type rated for a 20 gallon. Should I go even larger than that? I know they are messy fish.

With a five gallon tank, can I have Ottos as a companion? It seems like they prefer a larger tank size, and as they are schooling fish I can't get just one.

I'm quite excited about getting a DP- I've been reading all I can and looking at youtube videos. They seem like lovely little fish.

Dont forget to include some live snails in their diet! Its fun to watch them slurp the snails out of their shells lol

I would suggest getting a few Amano Shrimp as they clean up very well after DP's. Cherry shrimp though will get eaten in seconds (I made this mistake!).

And for your question....try the one you have and see how it goes!

IMO and INE amano's will be snatched up as fast as cherries... some poeple have luck with dp's and cherries, and some (most) dont!

Kept DPs for years with Amano shrimp and Ottos with no problems.
In-fact, I used to fish the Amano shrimp from a local wetlands!
