I have at the moment a juwel vison 180 litre tank with a fluval 205 external filter which I have had both since feb this year, when I did not know too much and was told by shop that the fluval 205 was big enough for my tank but on another website it is telling me that the fluval 205 is not good enough for the tank.

I will be getting a new tank in the new year that will about 400 litres and the other website is saying that these 2 new filters will be big enough for the new tank. so im thinking of buying a new filter this week from all pond solutions who advertise on ebay and I have heard some good things about their filters, now which one do I go for out of these 2, being that there is only £10 in price difference. I am on a budget and thought these sounded good for the price.

I've had the 1400l version only two or three months but have had no problems with it at all. It was very easy to set up, even for a newb to externals, and the maintenance is simple too. I'd recommend them with no hesitation.

P.S; go for the larger one ;)

If you can stretch to the 2000EF for £75, it will give you higher filtration for now in the 180l (you can always just simply point the spray bar directly down if you have fish that don't like current, which will aerate the water excellently) and give you the option of moving it to the ~400l in the future.

Failing that, the 1400EF is the next best option.

bigger is always better mate.

180l, you want to aim for 1800lph turnover, so go for the 1400lph filter to partner your fluval.
you dont need a uv but thats what comes with it so you cant aviod it.

The UV does come with a separate switch, so you don't have to actually use it; I don't.

allowing what filtration the tank came with i would try to go for x10 the water so aim for 2000 for your tank, this can be one Big filter but maybe think two as long run its a bit more work but offer options in times of troubles

Get a 2nd filter i suggest

Whats the water parameters all ok? You doing good water changes?

Thanks for all the replies. The water changes are every week sometimes an extra quick water change midweek. The water stats have been fine since my fishless cycle back in march.

Ammonia : 0
Nitrite : 0
Nitrate : 20
PH : 7.8

Watch this stays low, look at feeding and waste,, and maybe just up the changes... drop RO / DI will help there if you can feed it in over time couple litres a time as the PH and all bits bobs take a whack if RO used, and aqua safe of cause...

20 very good thou !!! Brilliant stuff
