Getting Back Into It. Fish For A Small Tank

Hey Guys,

I havent been on this forum for a while, at least since my dwarf gourami gave up and i didnt have the heart to hurt any more innocent fish... that is until now....

I'm in the process of cycling the tank now but i'm getting excited about putting some fish back in again. I've been doing some reasearch and theres not much that wont be stressed in a small (7.5 US gallon, 30L) tank.

I'm thinking 3 little platies would be about all the tank could handle. that way the tank wouldnt be over stocked, and there wouldnt be any fights i guess...

any other suggestions? i'm open to ideas!

The tank size is really limiting me and i'm scratching my head... Maybe there is something more exotic or prettier than 3 platies?

In a small tank i would maybe go for a few endlers as they are only small, 3 platys would be fine and once the tank is well established, you could put a few small corys in as well.

Those Endlers look interesting and sound reasonably hardy, they may be worth a look!

Though i was looking at platies on youtube and they were following a finger on the outside of the tank and my girlfirend said i could have hours of fun with that.... shes prob right


the only thing that concerns me a little about the endlers is that there is a little bit of current so i think ill need a bigger fish that wont get blown about. the powerhead is aimed vertically with no attachement, just so its bubbling occasionally, however there is still a slight current.

no other ideas as to what species may be suitable?

i never thought of a dwarf puffer, i'll def. look into that one!!

i've got quite a few options now so ill do my research,

Guppies are beautiful but very, very touchy - so much inbreeding to enhance their colour and fins has left them very delicate. The fins don't like currents.

I love my endlers but they reproduce like crazy. It's not a problem for me because I have lots of room for them and sell them when I start to get overstocked. A little easier to live with in a small tank would be sparkling gouramis. I know gourami sounds like a big fish but they are only about 1 1/2 inches long. They are not as decorative as an endler but also won't breed themselves out of a home.
