Hi all!!

My collection is growing to include another species of amphibian (yes they are amphibians!) - - Axolotls ( Ambystoma mexicanum )!!!!

I am so excited!! About 2 inches long so still very young - the breeder is shipping it out tomorrow and I will have it on Tuesday!!!

They're great little fellows, my girlfreind has an albino one and you can just sit and watch it for ages think how weird it is haha :)
looking forward to seeing the pictures,
Andy

grr who knows when that will be now! the seller is acting all kinds of shady! I emailed them asking for the tracking number so I can track its arrival for tomorrow - - they stated that they "didn't get around" to shipping it today and would "try to get it out sometime this week" but could not give me a confirmed date.

I am livid to say the least because the paypal information obviously already went through. Mind you, its not a sum that is breaking the bank but it is the point of the matter! I had also taken tomorrow off from work to be home when it arrived so I could acclimate it and have the afternoon to ooh and aah it.

update - prev breeder agreed to refund

and ordered with another breeder - learned my lesson the first time and have direct phone numbers for this breeder as well as a physically billing address, not just email communication.

Delivery day = Saturday! :hyper: Now I just need to be patient for a few more days!

This time I am getting a natural axie with pink gills and a leucistic albino :) (went for leucistic over regular albino because I liked the black eyes much better)

They will be about 9 months old and unable to cohabitate yet - the breeder let me know that they will be a year old in June and should around that time reach 4" and be able to live together with no risk of cannibalism

they came a day early!!! will post pictures momentarily!!!

in the last one, the axolotl was stalking the fish from the other side of the divider!

**The feeders are NOT store bought - I bought them off one of the people in my local fish club - they have been home raised in cycled tanks!

New additions have officially been named - - Leucistic is "Jellybean" and Wild type is "Reese" - they are settling in well and both are quite happy with their dinner!

Well done, they're gorgeous. I have a leucistic one myself who has grown to 10in in a year.
Just one thing, there appears to be fine gravel substrate in your tank. I would suggest replacing it with large stones too big to swallow or bare bottom (much easier to clean I find). Axolotyls have a habit of swallowing gravel and it can kill them.

No gravel or rocks of any kind in the tank - just blue sand with a bit of white sand mixed in.

They are gorgeous Jenste. At first I thought it was gravel but now I can see it's sand. Alex is currently in need of a clean out, they are messy so it's a real job to clean them. Be careful when cleaning them out, they tend to go for your fingers. Although their teeth can't pierce human skin they are venomous so I try not to let him get my fingers, just in case.

Cheers,
Paradise<3!

i already got nipped and it scared the bejeezus out of me! I am used to my clawed frogs toothless nibbles and when I am cleaning the tank they usually hide anyways - Reese (the wild type) stalked up to me while I was pushing a decorating back into the sand and nipped my pinky! I shrieked (very high pitch and girly to my embarrassment) and jerked my hand out of the tank. Reese didn't even flinch and just turned to stare at me through the tank glass like, "yep, that was me. Now what?"
