Getting A New Camera

It's my 30th in a few weeks so I'm thinking of treating myself to a new camera. I'm hopefully looking at getting a digital SLR camera as I would love to learn how to take some awesome pictures and the finer aspects of photography.

Basically, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a beginner. What would be the best make, not sure about how much I'm going to spend yet, so any recommendations would be appreciated, I'll think about costs a little bit down the line.

I've seen some "sets" you get on ebay, with like 5 lenses, etc, are these worth it or could you pick them up for a better prices elsewhere, or would these be best avoided full stop.

The best way is to go to a shop and handle those in your price range (I know you havent got one yet) pretty much all of them have automatic modes, apart from the pro stuff.

TBH theres not alot between the different brands, but you'll find alot of 3rd party accessories for Nikon or Canon. So it might be best to look at those.

regarding the kits on ebay, I'd steer clear if I were you, you dont really need 5 lenses, unless you have specific needs like macro or fisheye lenses.

Depending on your budget for lenses, a general purpose 18mm-70mm lens and a 70mm-300mm should be all you need.

There are a couple I've seen, the Nikon D60, and the Canon EOS 450D. Both look and seem pretty good from reviews I've been reading, although I'm maybe swaying towards the canon. Lens wise, I think i'll just get the basic lens kit that comes with the camera, and learn how to use the camera first, then maybe buy a 70mm - 300mm once i grasp the basics!!!!!! I think I'll stear clear from ebay when buying, don't want to get ripped off.

Well, i've just bought my camera, its the canon EOS 450d with th 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens and EF 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens, nothing special but enough to get me started, looking forward to it arriving, I'm like a little kid at christmas now!!!!
