I have just subscribed to PFK and got a free E701 filter well chuffed, was looking at getting another external ready for new tank, that's saved me a few quid, can spend more on my lights now :)

Any idea when this offer started? I note it is only open to the first 140 subscribers with the remainder looking like they will get 3 extra issues.

it started on the 12th of this month 5 days ago, apparently on first day of launch only one order was put through ordered mine yesterday and made it. had email confirming order, you might still be lucky not sure they get that many subscriptions per day

good luck :)

After a bit of turmoil, realised I would be getting the subscription for a pointless filter. Decided not to, let someone else get it instead.

is that pointless as in you dont really need it, or that the filter on offer in not very good?

Dont need it. I have a 90L tank that would benefit from something that size, but right now it hosts fire bellied newts and the eheim aquaball I have in there is perfect for them.

Beyond that the tanks are smaller and something that size would be ridonkulous.

OK, thats good, was wondering if I had done the right thing going for it, but having read reviews seems like on OK filter, to small on its own for my new tank but will be running in tandem with an APS1000 EF so should be ok

Generally speaking all filters will do their job, just some will have designs that make things easier/better. For the reported £91 value (a google found it at £81) I would rather get my hands on another tetratec ex1200. Love that filter. As for the magazine, if you a regular monthly reader it makes sense. If like me you go 3-6 months between issues, getting only to ones that interest you, I can save myself money that way.

That and my wife is already complaining about how much i spend on my astronomy subscriptions haha

I agree if I was paying £80+ for filter I would have gone for a better one than the E701, but its cost me £25 for a six month subscription, wasn't really interested in the mag, like you I buy it occasionally if the articles inside interst me, but in my mind thats saved me about £50+ on a filter which can now go towards some better light units, in the words of a grocer  "Every little Helps" ( other grocers are available)

Haha I work for that grocer! No other grocers available...

Pay close attention: minimum subscription is 13 issues meaning either 13 issues in 12 months = 1 year or 6 months direct debit x2 OR its going to take 2x annual / 3x 6 monthly to aquire the 13 issue minimum if there are only 12 issues in 12 months.

o yeah I see what your saying, going to cost me £75 in the long run, wondering if I should cancel now and just buy a filter instead

Got mines for £89 a few years back, was shocked to discover soo many places selling it for what they are.

thats the best price I have seen it, seriously going to get one at that price, just need to phone and cancel that subscription now. note to self for future, "more haste less speed"
