hey all,

i saw a beautiful crimson male fighter, and was wanting to purchase it, but would it be a good tank mate for 4 sunset platties?

someone told me if they see brightly coloured fish they will think its another male and attack, dont know if its true for platties but def guppies

Not really, male SF's can be very picky about their tank mates, some will tolerate a few species, cories, rasboras - nothing with long fins or nippy, whilst others will attack without mercy a snail let alone another fish.

fighters really are " suck it and see" fish, being so individual in personalities you may get one that will tolerate them, then again, all hell may break lose, dont get one unless you have a seperate tank to put him in if ,he starts doing what comes natural :)

i agree they are extremely unpredictiable they may be fine for a while at first then they may just start attacking everything.
best in species only tank :good:

You can pick up a smallish tank for a single betta if its really taken your fancy. I did and am glad I did.

if you are willing to seperate and possibly get a second tank if it doesn't work out then worth a try :good:
