My GBR's just laid eggs in my 20 long. It is semi planted, I just set it up recently and it had two pairs. I removed one pair immediatley after I saw eggs. They laid on a clay pot, and I see the male fertilizing eggs now. I want to raise these perfectly and want everyone's advice as I am new to egg layers. What do I do? How long before hatching? What should my water params be? I'll take water parameters tomorrow. How should I raise the eggs? I'm scared and excited. Such a beautiful thing to see in person. Thanks

I'd suggest that you let the rams do the work and you just need to keep the water parameters constant. I'd suggest a lot more small water changes more frequently.

More than likely, the ram pair will NOT raise this first batch. Its ok. They need to learn what to do. But, from what I understand... rams raised by their parents are more likely to be good parents when their turn comes around.

And now that they 'have the bug' for reproduction, they will begin again very shortly.

I did a water change like 2 hours ago. Then I went to petco to hang out (and scored HELLA plants and equiptment on sale, 2 hydor flow pumps for half off) and came back to eggs.

I'll get water params tomorrow like I said. I think they were in the middle of fertilizing eggs still, but I turned the lights off in the tank. Is that ok? I don't know if I should have left them on for them to continue or what.

I really want them to keep the first batch alive. How could they not? Would they just eat them? The tank has a sponge filter and no other fish. Lots of plants and ceramic pots for coverage.

What can I do to prepare? I have hikari first bites, but I don't know about other food.

What should I feed them when they are free swimming? Yeah I know they can live off their yolk sac for 4 days after hatching but after that, then what do I feed?

Live bbs, or if you have javamoss they will eat off that, or if you have IAL they will munch on that best thing is LIVE BBS or FROZEN BBS
