For those that don’t visit the planted forum here are a couple of shots from my tank. If you’re interested in finding out more about this tank then visit my journal (see sig).

Close up of Digweed the Discus. Note the flowering Anubias nana plant. Healthy plants, healthy fish.

First Class! as usual George, Thanks for the info by the way..
Regards
BigC

o LOVE your tank, its practically the spitting image of what i wanted in my upcoming 55... but in a natural setting should the gravel really be black? ive seen black gravel and it looks great, but i never knew that that was for a natural look... :dunno:

WOW gorgeous! lol at first I thought the blue was something you had drawn on the pic the color was so bright.

Should be a rule cant post any pics of such wonderful tanks that it will make the rest of us feel bad lmao :p

Nice Gf225. I like it because its not fake, its very natural, and its got some well known, common plants in the feature. Also, the bright fish are sweat! Id like to see the drift wood out visible more. :)

I wish I could keep my plants looking that good. I want my fish to have all those plants to hide in. They are absoulty beautiful.

Wow, VERY nice. The color contrast of the fish against the black and the vivid green is stunning (and the plants look very healthy!).

Thanks everyone. A lot of hard work has gone into this tank - a lot more than necessary but life is for learning. ;)

I plan to plant the foreground with a low spreading carpeting plant - see my journal for more details of you're interested.

You are right that in nature the substrate isn't black, it is generally a sand like substance.

However, I am not attempting to imitate nature, more using nature as inspiration. In aquascaping, a "Nature Aquarium" is a term used to describe a layout that, for want of a better phrase, looks like a scene from nature. This concept was pioneered by Takashi Amano, a Japanese photographer with a passion for planted tanks.

You could argue that my tank looks nothing like a scene from "true" nature as my plants are from three seperate continents and I have fish from S America and SE Asia. I would still like to say though that my tank has a nature feel to it, and will look even better when I cover the foreground, thus hiding most of the black you see.

I look forward to seeing your 55, it would be great to see you in the planted forum with your ideas and implentations. 55s are a challenge to aquascape IME.

Regards
George

Nice tank george  and far be it for me to criticise but I think I preferred your tank when you had the sagitaria at the front....

Still looks awesome though

Thanks. I agree with you, just wait though - all will become apparent in the future.

A recent photo for those who don't visit the planted forum.

It should look even nicer if and when the Glossostigma elatinoides carpets. I'm hoping to enter into next years AGA contest.

gf225 every single pic you posted isn't their. Their is a box on where the pic should be but their is no pic. If you don't mind try putting you pics on http://www.putfile.com then give us the link to the web site.
