Hello,

I posted this question in the tropical discussion section, but didn't get any assistance, so I thought I would try here...

Basically, I want to stock my tank with two types of geophagus (winemilleri and tapajos) and wondered if there'd be any issues with doing this. I've read conflicting reports about which geos can be kept together, so was wondering if these two were compatible. Do I need to be concerned about any aggression issues, interbreeding or any other factors?

Thanks

I think different types of eartheater can get territorial to each other so its hard to say really, If its a big tank you might be ok :)

It'll be an 8ft tank...do you think that's big enough to pull it off?

Also, nice avatar! Is that a type,of satanoperca?

Is there any specific reason for stocking two species? Imho one larger group of a single species would be better.

Only that these are the two species I find most attractive.

I think that could be ok but I wouldn't want to say for sure as it could depend on the Individual fish, if you look on YouTube there are videos of people's tanks with different types In.

And thanks :) I think it's a satanoperca leucostica but they are hard to tell apart, alot of them are mislabeled in fish stores but I believe this is the variety I used to have as u can tell by the spots down the cheeks :)

How many of each would you be considering? For each species it is best to keep them in numbers, 3-5 at least. They are usually territorial with other geos, and given the adult size (Winemilleri 8" and Tapajos 5") I would be careful when mixing. I wouldn't want a bunch of bullied red heads XD. As long as you have a large enough footprint for each species to feel 'at home', it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Maybe have some visual barrier in the middle of the tank (large driftwood/rocky decoration) so they can have breaks from each other. Best of luck!

Ok, thanks for the advice guys. I'll probably stick with one group of geos for now.

which ones will you be going for? :)
It's G. winemilleri for now. Depending on their temperament, I might try the tapajos at a later date.

good choice should colour up lovely once established be sure to upload some pictures :)
