i just got two new 7 gallon tanks for my bettas (currently in unfiltered 4 gallons) and i need internal filters for both tanks.

i've set one up with the filter it came with, an Aqua One filter, it still seems quite fast.

it's one of those

i was going to get a Fluval 1 for the other tank (which came with a yucky undergravel filter i don't want to use)

is this still going to be quite powerful for my little VTs?

or do you have any tips for breaking up the current? i'm going to put lots of tall silk plants in anyway, will they make much difference?

Wholesale Tropicals have a huge range of sponge filters for small tanks. As I'm sure other shops will too. They would be your best bet.

Failing that, I used the smallest Hagen Elite Stingray 5 (for a 5 gallon) - but do not be fooled as it's fairly powerful on the direct outflow. You can however angle the outflow and if directly @ 90 degrees towards the tank wall, it creates very little current in the tank.

What are you dimensions ?

(without the stand, i have one in silver and one in black)

i can angle the filter i have at the moment, i'll try that 90 degree thing tonight and see if it makes any difference

A smaller sponge filter might be your best bet :) The Fluval Singray would only have worked if it was a longer tank. Ooooor, you could try a small Serra Filter. I have one of those and they are very gentle - it's similar to a Fluval 1, but gentler. Can't seem to find it on a quick google, but got it from my lfs for £10 or so.
