Okay, what would you get out of a crowntail male spawned with a veiltail female. Because I heard that crowntails are dominant genes.

Next, would I get higher than a 25% if I bred a F2 female veil/plakat cross with a plakat male?

I heard that crossing a CT with a VT would result in a combtail.
But don't hold me to that one... I'm not too s ure if thats what the result would be! Correct me if im wrong anyone!

good question. What would you get when you cross a cowntail with a veiltail? :dunno:

I think its like vieltail + crown = viel but if the viel has some crown or combtail genes, the fry may be combtails

You can have combs on a VT and on a HM.

Out of curiosity, how do you know your female is a veil/plakat?

I don't know for sure, but I got her from a petstore and from what I hear no one will sell the petstores around here any females other than veiltails. So chances are, she's a veil, so I assume she's a veil.

plus from what I hear some crown tails...halfmoons...ect.....sometimes slip in to the mix.

It all depends on how the fish were breed.......like if they used a huge tub with multi-breeding areas.

DUNNO dont quote me...lol

That's why you shouldn't breed a fish that you didn't purchase from a breeder that you know the genetic information on. ;)

ive been told that if you cross crowntail with veiltail you get veiltail fry and then if you spawn a brother and sister you get some crowntails some veiltail then if you do a brother and sister from that spawn you get more crowntails

dunno if its true or not

Why would you want to mix fresh Veil gene into your genetic line....at all?

I think it's ok for beginners to breed veiltails because it's so expensive to buy bettas w/good genes. IT's good practice because there is a lot that could go wrong w/bettas. Like on parent killing the other. I did my first spawn w/a cheap pair just to get the hang of it and learn. The best way to learn something is to just do it yourself w/an unexpensive pair first. I could be wrong. What do you guys think? :dunno:

All i would say is make sure you have somewhere that will take them if you do spawn them, we all start somwhere..and many years ago thats all there was to work with so its a starting point ,but don't breed just for the sake of breeding as one it is very time consuming to do it properly, they are little lives that are in your hands, and they will rely on you to keep them fed clean and in good health so i agree with what you saying here, but make sure they will all have a home, you may not be able to sell them but you may have someone want some if they are nice if during this spawning you happen to come up with something that is worth keeping then you can then go on breeding from there remember all the fish we see today come from breeding and selective breeding of the off spring you could have some decent halfmoons in five years time from them....  yes if you want Quality then you have to pay that bit extra but if you have an outlet for them then go for it and experiment in breeding but again it will be time consuming, but once you have learned to ride the bike you wont fall off.. :hyper: :p :p
