I added 1/2 of the reccomended salt for the mollies. Ph was a little hi, so I put in a correct ph tablet. Is this recommended? Should I have put it in a little bit at a time. The box says just drop it in??? -_-
Also, does it matter how much salt there is for guppies, I know livebearers can handle it, but how much is too much. They should be able to tolerate the environment of the mollies? How many guppies will go into a 10 gal. tank w/2 platies and I mollie? I thought it was about two. Also, I was thinking of maybe putting in another mollie so the silver one can have a fish to school with. Do you reccomend an algae eater? I heard mollies eat algae...
And, by the way, how long does it take for the ammonialevels 2 rise/ nitrate/nitrite?
I know these questions r quite annoying, but I simply am not sure.
:*)
Thanx 4 yur help
:/

haha.  .......u're tank sounds exactly like mine........the guppies will b able to handle the salt don't worry about that......a 1/2 dose is good! :D IMO anyway.........i don't know anything about those ph tablet things so i can' t help u there
-um what size tank do u have?
2 guppies would b happy with the others.....but watch out for males chassing females. my male is very docile and doesn't chase the female at all but this all depends on the fish himself!
-yes get your molly a friend.....female or male...mine r all females
-mollies do eat algae but they don't do the work algae eaters do.......and plus u can give them supplements 4 algae........an algae eater is your choice and i've heard good things about otocinclus......they only get to b 1.5" and r really good cleaners (they will need supplement food tho) u need more than one.
ammonia takes about a week with fish in the tank......nitrites up 2 3 weeks......i'm not sure on the numbers tho good luck

Please don't bother with the pH adjusters - fish don't need a perfect pH (especially mollies) but a varying pH will kill them quick as anything. Also, pH adjusters are generally phosphates, which encourage the growth of algae.

I suggest you leave the pH well alone and just concentrate on getting your tank nicely cycled. If you're not sure, follow the link in my sig. Good luck.

And if your serious about really changing the pH get some bogwood however with mollies you really don't unless the pH exceeds like 8 ;) and yes pH adjusters ain't any good :(
