*work firewalls sigh*
I have a few generalized questions if i may, after reading through the forum lists for plants.
It is clear I need approx 2inches of silica sand (or other substrate) for our plants - will a gravel/sand mix suffice?
C02 is not an option either as an injector or as a diffuser so wondering if i can use some kind of dose chemical which will not harm the fish, a trace on the plants to keep them healthy - or is there some other way to keep the plants in the tank healthy without harming the fish/shrimps.

and basically can anyone recommend a floating plant - i did see mention of riccia? or frogbit?

Mixing Sand and Gravel is fine but the sand is eventually going to work through to the bottom and the gravel will be on top. I definitely prefer sand with a flourite base.

If you aren't adding CO2 and have high lighting you're gonna have problems. You could add a chemical, I forget the name, but it basically adds carbon to the water that your plants can use... but that will get VERY expensive very quickly.

You could always go for low-light plants, and then you probably wouldn't need any CO2, just make sure your lighting isn't too high

"Seachem Flourish Excell" - great stuff but you may as well blend up a load of cash, add water and pour that into the tank, not a viable long term plan i'm afraid

why is co2 not an option? just curious.
