Hi friends,

I got 2 orandas a few weeks ago and I made them some meaty gel food so they can have it as a treat.

I now want to make gel food that they can have as a stable diet. I've read about gel food and different recipes online. So far I'm thinking of putting peas, carrots, broccoli, spirulina powder in the mix. Do I need to put some vitamins in it and if so I read somewhere that a good quality multi vit tablet will do. Any thoughts on the vitamin?

I tried finding all the sites I read about gel food a few weeks ago and I'm going mental. If you guys have any suggestions then please help.

Also no one mentioned in anywhere that I had read, if the peas should be taken out of the shell or not before blending. If you use peas in your gel food then do you take it out of the shell or is it okay to keep the shells?

Cheers,
Mothi

as far as im conserned orandas are quite similar to gold fish and are extremely hardy fish, however protien is excellent for all fish. orandas eat gold fish food but gold fish food has low nutritional value and regular tropical flakes are better. you can even feed orandas Tubifex to give them a meaty treat and put some protien in but as far as im conserned feeding gels do expand in the water so any uneating food can reeeaalllly look bad

Thanks for your reply Blue Ramirezi.

Feeding them gel food isn't a problem for me or it doesn't make the water look bad. I break the gel food in to bite size pieces and drop 2 at a time in the tank and none of it gets wasted. Right now I do feed them with tropical flakes as well as spirulina flakes and some cichlid pellets that I have for my other fish.

I read in places that gel food is best for orandas plus it works out much cheaper I think :S
