I am looking to set up my first reef tank and during my research I have come across the Garf Zero impact reef aquarium. I am looking do a carbon copy of this setup (from DIY rock to the same lights/skimmer etc) which was found while doing research at reefsuk.com.

And this is the link to garf

Garf

The setup seems really stable and I am very patient and willing to wait the extra time needed for the tank to stableize.

I am looking for subjective comments from the members of this forum about the above setup. Please don't advise me to go for an aquamedic perc, I have considered this but it seems so dull and I consider half the fun to be in the DIY aspect of the system.

Thanks in anticipation.

As I believe it was Navarre said in another thread.... the aragocrete rocks are nice and all, but you lack the biodiversity that wild rocks bring in. You're not gonna get the feather dusters, polyps, odd species of coraline algae, snails, etc. The thing that most of us get excited over is seeing what came in on our live rock.

Other than that, the GARF stuff always looks wonderful. Being able to shape your rocks to fit what you want it to is a HUGE plus.

Making manmade liverock is a great way to build up the reef system but i would add perhaps1/3 quantity of mature liverock so the mand made can become seeded and allow the reef to function and look natural.
