Gar Attack

yesterday my gar tried to eat my ornate bichir which was a bit of a surprise since they are roughly the same size.the gar would of never been able to swallow him coz of its width but that didnt stop him trying.he launched a lightning strike and got the bichirs head in its mouth right past the gills.all this happened right in front of me luckily otherwise who knows what damage it would of done.i opened the hood and hit the gar with a net and it released it.no visible damage on the bichir just shaken up a bit.he is now in with the 2 delhezi recovering.

thats crazy!!i know when i fish for gar they tend to take an eel down very quickly.usually if its long and skinney,down the hatch it goes.

oh u have an alligator gar.they are even more mean and nasty

Sounds like he had him quite good then! Wonder why he did that, or are his eyes just too big for him belly

the ornate is fine not even a scratch they seem very thick skinned.hes a lot better now in a different tank and now he is the big fish in the tank.he was tring to catch the mollies an hour after i transfered him.they wont be there in the morning i know that

Are you gonna keep him in the 30 for now, until hes abit bigger?

Fortunate that he's an Ornate (one of the chunkiest Bichirs) and not a Senegal or Ropefish.

luckily i took out my 2 7" delhezis last week otherwise it would of been a different story

cane i would be happy to take that gar off your hands ive got a 8*3*3 with a small rtc and a small pacu plenty of room (soon building 15*5*5) i think that should be big enough for a adult

1.5*2*2
2.4*1*1
my 8*3*3 is made of fiber glass with a 8*3 glass front next year i will be building a 15*5*5
ps could you or any one on this forum help locate a spotted gar
