I have a Fluval 2+ in my tank and usually after I turn it off to clean the tank, when I turn it on again nothing happens. So I take it out and shake it a bit and test it out in a bucket of water and its fine. But today I just can't get it started again - it's making a sort of motor-running noise but not moving any water. I've cleaned it thoroughly to make sure it's not blocked or anything.

So my questions are:

- is there anything else I could do to get it working tonight?

and

- when I go to the LFS tomorrow, what should I get to replace it? I'm tempted to get another fluval because it's what I've always had and I like the design, but at the same time it would be nice to have something that won't just pack up and die on me for no reason. Call me old fashioned but it seems like fish tnak equipment should be reliable enough not to jeopardy the safety of your fish. grrrr.

thankyou!

Hiya,

You say it makes a motor running sound, is that with your ear against the glass of the tank, with the filter in place? Seems to me that either the impellor is binding up, or something similar. Have you taken the impellor out of it's well and cleaned in there?

sub.

PS, is the impellor in one piece?

Thats the noise I heard when I was trying to run the filter in a bucket of water - an implausible solution which usually works for some reason. I've taken out the impellor, cleaned it, put it back in, twizzled it round and round...nothing happening. :(

yea i had that problem before, i was supposed to go to the airport in 3 hours and then that happened i was like o.. .crap... so i tried to figure it out... reclened it again thought somthing was getting stuck 20 minutes later still broken but i heard the noise.. i was ilke ooo crap... haha

What happened is the first time i was cleaning it i was cleaning the motor impellor and i guess i broke it when i put it back in, so the thing wasnt spinning at alll but it was making noises.... pretty much theonly thing would be the impeller. Check to see if that little white things broken, or if the little yellow cap broke off or somthing, my guess is 90% the impellor (if you did clean that part)

good luck
You can take it to your LFS if you like them and ask them to help ya
