As you know i am in the process of setting up a larger tank
I am planning to run 2 x Fx5 for filtration
My tank has brace bars which at the rear are cut for pipework to go through - unfortunately these are not big enough to accomodate two pipes (definitely not FX5 pipes )
Does anyone know what size Y connector I will need to connect two pipes to the outlet/inlet and can anyone foresee any problems by doing this ??

Putting all of the flow into a single pipe from 2 pipes will mean restricting the flow in that area. If the original pies are larger than the filter really needs it might work out, but if they are properly sized you will be restricting flow in the single pipe areas. On the inlet side of your filter, the restriction can make the impeller cavitate and result in impeller damage rather quickly. On the return side it would not cause any damage but would still be choking off some of the flow from your filters.

Sounds like that could be a no no then
any ideas how i can accommodate 2 sets of pipes ??

yeah, hard one that. i just place them like this, left to right:

outlet filter1
inlet filter 2
inlet filter 1
outlet filter2
the reason both inlets are together is because they have/need the shortest tubing.
it does cause chaos around the back of the tank though.
