im not 100% happy with the pipework on my FX5. firstly because its ribbed which surely slows the flow down, secondly because i keep getting white gunk forming on the rubber connectors that sit in the tank, which doesnt look nice and cant be good if the fish eat any.... and lastly because i want to use it with a spraybar instead of the nozzles/jets supplied.
so has anyone else done this to theirs?
what pipework did you use?
what connectors etc were used?

thanks, Matt.

would this method be safe to follow?

do you not need aquarium pipework etc...?

looks pretty good. I have often thought about changing the pipework and if i had the chance without causing myself too much hassle i would. Just be careful not to restrict the flow too much and put strain on the impeller, i'm not sure what the diameter of the current hosing is but i would get it as close as i could to the original. Or if you wanted to slow the flow use a pipe with a larger diameter.

the biggest tubing i have found so far is 19/27mm eheim which looks like a good fit from measuring the spare connector thing you get.....
i guess the size of the holes in the spraybar will determin the amount of strain on the impellor. im not after massive flow i just hate the jet/nozzles that come with it as they cause too much flow in my tank! with a spraybar along the back wall it will/should slow things down a little giving my fish a calmer environment.... i could just turn the flow down more on the valves but then whats the point in having an fx5 if im going to do that.....

true. Also you could probably pick up hosing from a garden or aquatic store far cheaper than buying eheim stuff. Its pretty much the same bar it doesn't say "eheim" on it. Also i would try and not use white plastic, didn't look that nice to me.
