hi all, im thinking about buying one.

can anyone tell me how long the piping is thats supplied with it? (for inlet and outlet, the ribbed stuff) is it 2 lots of 1m or 2 lots of 1.5m etc.

EDIT: i realise it doesnt come with a spraybar. i will DIY one. has anyone else done this? if so what did you use to block off one end of the spraybar?

Laastly, can i have your opinions on the filter please. Any niggles pros/cons.

Thanks all.

I;m interested in this as well cos I think I need one, didn;t realise they had no spray bar though!!

I got mine off here so not sure on what the lenght of the new pipe is but id say at a guess about 1.5 > 2meter for each one.

No issues with the filter so far:) I find the outlett is good as it points in two directions giving quite good water circulation:)

cant comment on the filter as I have never had one but I think you will find people that love them and some that will give you good reason not to bye one.

As for the spray bar I got a Fluval spray bar kit for my tank which is 2 sections of pipe joined with a rubber section with one section of bar capped on one end I wanted to use the 2 bits of bar as 2 different bars running off 2 different pumps so one bit off bar I just filled one end with about 20mm of Aquarium safe mastic 9 months later its still holding :good:

yeah, the outlet loks quite good but i might DIY a spraybar for it as it will give me overall better flow in the planted tank, i can use a koralia if i want one area 'blasted'

so only one person on the forums owns an FX5?

i got my fx5 new came with roughly 8 foot of pipe in one piece, you have to cut it to suit. no doesn't come with a spray bar but i made one for mine with 1" pvc pipe and pvc stop end cap, easy enough.
the filter is really good, quiet. had mine running constantly for a year now, well i stop it to clean it once a month, never ever had 1 single problem with it.
lots of people claim they are noisey and unreliable, but in my experience this is not true, i would recommend it, the twin outlet gives very good circulation even in big tanks.
i'm selling mine if your interested, only thing is, it comes with a fluval roma 240 lol

Dave

ahh shame, would have taken the filter if it was a good price and could be posted... Unfortunatey i dont think my parents would be happy with a 240 tank, i have just sold mine to make room for a larger project. :hyper:
cheers for the info though, its good to talk to people who actually own one and can give decent honest feedback.
