Fx5 External

Wow thanks for that,i think from that the fluval Fx5 will suit me better. For one it is 900lph more then the ehiem and 2 it has loads of foam media so it will easily be able to pic out the gunk my messy cichlids do.As for the Ehiem i would choose it if i had no bugdet as it's supposed to be all round a better filter.Nearly double the price though

i have an eheim 2180 which is the one with the heater and it keeps my water spotless and i have some rather messy fish in that tank

ive never trusted fluvals really everyone ive had has broke but i have to say even to me the fx5 at that price looks a bargain :good:

Hi,
I have an Fx5 on my 400litre Cichlid tank, and I love it, I have had no problems, though that large capacity makes the wallet weep when it comes to filling it up!! Yes thats a good price, if you don't want to wait, print it out and take it to a Maiden Head Aquatics, and they should match the price, they did with me anyway, especially if you buy the filter media etc there as well.

Hmm,my tank is going to be nearly 3xs the size though. Thanks for the input.Looking up Maiden Head Aquatics now.

You have to factor in longevity. Many Eheims work at 15-20 years old. While the FX5 is a different filter style from the x04/x05 series, Fluvals have a nasty reputation for failing and flooding your house after 2 years or less. So while the Eheim costs twice as much to buy, over 8 years it could easily work out at half the price (without factoring in electrical costs).

Eheim are the best brand there is (barring Tunze). Fluval are essentially a budget brand.

The choice is yours, but many people (myself included) have regretted choosing Fluval in the past as a swift search of the forum will show.

to my knowledge though tunze dont do external filters do they? i could be wrong but ive never seen or heard of one

Seems like i'm going to put a pond filter over it now anyways :good:
