Hi, im thinking of getting a or some shrimp for my 1 gallon, mini tank. Just a few quesitions:
Could i have any in that size tank (6x6x6") and what type/s would you reccomend?
As i wont be having any other tankmates, what would they eat, as i presume id have to substitute the algea, and i presume that plants wont be sufficent...
Will i need a lid?
What temp should they be kept at? I have 2 small, 7.5w heaters, if needs be...

Thanks alot, Mikey

I'd try a few cherry shrimp probably.

Lid - yes.

Mine eat flake mainly, it's mainly for the fry but they eat it still.

I'd put in one of those heaters personally.

How is the tank filtered and water changing plan etc.?

Err filter?
Yeah, i wont be havin a filter, but i can waterchange when ever...I would only need to take a cup or two out, every couple of days, so its not a big deal...
I kinda just set the tank up tonight, with 3 differant substrates. One, fine sand, two, some small rounded gravel and finally some small pebels. Looks very good...
If i cant have any shrimp without a filter, then what would you surrgest for it?
Also, i havent got a lid, dont know what id use for one...Cling film???

Thanks, Mikey

My shrimp produce loads of waste, so much. Could be a problem in an unfiltered tank :/

For lids I use pieces of glass.

Allright, well im gonna give it a go, and take it from there...
Im very excited, cos im going to get my fish today :D
Ill post pics of both set-ups later :good:

Thanks alot, MIkey

Unfortunately, BAS had no nice shrimps, so im gonna go to my LFS sometime this week, and hopefully get a cherryshrimp or two...

I think you would need filter, although shrimp are said to produce very little waste(and mine never produced much) they wont tolerate any ammonia, nitrites and are less tolerant of nitrates than fish usually kept in small tanks like bettas.
Also, ive not had any cherry shrimp yet so they could be different :/ .

Hmmmm, i dont really want to spend any money at the moment, cos ive just set-up my 38g, and i need to get an external for it too, cos i was wanting to go cheap as possable really...
If i did enough water changes, and had, lets say 2 shrimp, then would i be ok? (also, id get a few plants, so help get rid of the nitrate etc.

Mikey

My shrimps are annoying, they produce alot of waste compared to what I thought they would.

Simple sponge filter maybe?

Could get an elite mini, from ebay...200lph, but if i put onto lowest power, should be not too strong for them.. Also, they're very small... They are only £7.50 delivered off ebay, but im getting the shrimps tomorrow, so wont be able to get the filter till thursday or friday
