are there any freshwater snakes that can be kept in tanks? if so what are they called?

Most Water snakes are very dangerous, and would be a hazard to keep. Snakes don't have gills, and usually only go on water when hunting, so unless you plan to have a several hundred terrarium/aquarium, I would not suggest it.
There are many snake like fish though, Loachs, Spiny eels, ropefish, and bichirs, to name a few. But most have very specific water conditions that need to be maintained and need carefully selected tank mates.
